Blue Rock
7,400 sq. ft. musician's retreat and home, including working studio. Wimberly, TX.
Anchored to the weathered limestone which reveals itself in exposed ridges across this very special site, Blue Rock is clad with matching rock gathered from ranch sites in the area. The design evolved around a creative myth that certain historic structures were found on the site: a stone tower and a small stone building, the remains of an early nineteenth century garrison. The house was then designed to look as though it was very respectfully added to the existing structures, to create a compound for musicians, artists and writers. The house incorporates a full professional recording studio, the owner’s quarters, and a guest house for visiting artists. In addition, there is another place for guests, the “quiet house,” located just down the hill some distance from the main house.
